The Sweet Life
Celebrating Confectionery Creators
Vermont has a way of spreading an array of local products far and wide, offering its freshest and finest to the world. And among the variety of products almost everyone loves is chocolate. Here, four confectionery businesses—NU Chocolat, Laughing Moon Chocolates, Mother Myrick’s Confectionery, and Birnn Chocolates of Vermont—do just that. The single thread is that these businesses produce confections that are exquisite, scrumptious, and delicious. Over time they have perfected their craft, and they care deeply about their customers.
Each, however, has a unique story. A chocolatier trained by a Swiss chef in St. Louis who now with his family brings perfection and artistry to truffles in addition to darn good hot chocolate. A young woman who came to Vermont on a whim with no intention of making chocolate and now celebrates 21 years in her shop. A famed confectionery that started as a fudge stand in the window of a local Main Street store 45 years ago. And last, a fourth-generation wholesale business where six languages are spoken.
Passionate about their confections, these business owners share a sense of pride and delight in making people happy by enjoying a scrumptious truffle, slice of cake, or a delicious cup of hot cocoa. They also play a small part in the countless life celebrations we all enjoy. And we all know that Vermont winters can be long and cold, making it the perfect season to cozy up and indulge ourselves.
