Heart Grown Wild: A Small Batch Plant Skin Care Company That's All Heart.
Heart Grown Wild is a woman owned, small batch herbal skin care company based in Southern Vermont. Santalena Groves, founder and trained herbalist had a vision to create plant beauty products that transport each person to a landscape in nature, so that no matter where you are, you can connect with plant beauty. The goal is to help revolutionize how green beauty products are made, and provide education that less, can still be more. Each product is designed to engage the senses, foster an intrinsic connection to nature and support grounding the mind through daily self-care practices.
Heart Grown Wild craft facial serums, and steam distill hydrosols in-house for face toners, honey masks, bath soaks, facial steams, body oils and hair care products. The company was co-founded by Santalena’s husband Tom Groves, who specializes in native plant conservation. As plant enthusiasts, together it is their mission to inspire slower more sustainable practices when creating each product. Additionally, they value synergistic formulation, local sourcing, and slower intentional growth to maintain the efficacy and integrity of each product. Now more than ever their practice to collaborate with quality local sources/businesses that share their mission seems even more important. The couple believes that they don’t have to “do it all”, and support local businesses unique expertise.
Over the years Heart Grown Wild has offered free workshops to provide accessible education on wellness, plants, cultivation and self-sufficiency, and are currently expanding those offerings through video platforms. Since the beginning of the pandemic, Santalena, who was a mental health social worker for ten years prior to founding Heart Grown Wild, has expanded her community-minded generosity offering complimentary emotional support and counseling sessions to anyone in need.
Santalena's At Home DIY Self-Care Face Steam
“It's a super easy way to create a self-care spa experience at home. I love adding really aromatic herbs to my face steams, like tulsi, hyssop, lemon balm, and angelica root.“
Directions: - Put handful of the herbs in a bowl- Pour hot water over them to cover (as if you were making tea)
- Put a plate over the bowl to allow the herbs to infuse and steep for 3-4 minutes
- Place your head over the bowl and a towel over your head to create a kind of tent that holds in the steam - Breathe deeply!
